Dernière journée de juillet !
Ce matin il a fallu évidemment partir la
génératrice. Le frigo commençait à être pas mal
réchauffé, n'ayant pas marché de la nuit. Mais il y
restait encore une certaine fraîcheur, comme quoi il
est très bien isolé.
Ken a fait différemment ce matin, il a branché la
génératrice sur le 110 volts du chargeur de
batteries, plutôt que de ploguer les fils directement
sur les pôles d'une des batteries. Comme ça on
les chargeait toutes à la fois. On l'a laissé
marcher une vingtaine de minutes et puis on a
démarré le moteur.
Nous savions qu'il y avait un pont juste à 3
milles, qui n'ouvre qu'aux heures, alors on s'est
arrangé pour être là juste un peu avant 8h00. C'est
le pont de Surf City.
Avant de partir ce matin j'ai regardé les marinas
possibles pour ce soir et nous nous rendrons à
Beaufort, N.C. à la marina municipale. 1.75 le
pi. mais bon... ils offrent aussi une voiture de
courtoisie, alors nous pourrons faire quelques
commissions, et ils sont supposé avoir le wi-fi.
Espérons que cette fois-ci ça fonctionnera à partir
du bateau.
Il faudra prendre notre temps car juste 3 milles
avant d'arriver il y a encore un pont et il
n'ouvre pas durant l'heure de pointe, soit de 16h30 à
18h00. Nous savons que nous ne pourrons pas y
être avant 16h30. Alors en après-midi il faudra
ralentir la cadence pour arriver juste après 18h00.
Ce matin on a vu un record en nombre de nids de
Balbuzards (Osprey). Ils font leur nid sur les
"markers" de l'ICW. C'est pas des bouées, mais des
poteaux avec une pancarte rouge ou verte et le
numéro du "marker". Tous les nids qu'on a vu
avaient des jeunes dedans. J'ai pris quelques
photos.
À 10h00 on passait Chadwick Bay, c'était juste
avant le mille 250. Ciel bleu sans nuage.
À midi on passait dans le "Camp Lejeune", une
base militaire mais surtout une base de pratique de
tir. Et lorsqu'ils pratiquent l'ICW est fermé,
quelquefois pour quelques heures, quelques fois
pour plusieurs jours. On est chanceux, il n'y
avait pas de pratique aujourd'hui.
Il y avait un pont juste avant et on a dû
attendre à 11h30 pour passer, il était restreint aux
demi-heures.
Pour diner j'ai fait une salade grecque. Elle
était bien bonne. Avec un verre de vin blanc.
Puis pour dessert deux mini biscuits aux brisures
de chocolat et un thé vert.
Il est 13h28 au moment où j'écris ces lignes.
Là, il est 23h20.
On accostait à Beaufort N.C. à 16h15. Juste
comme arrivait un gros orage.
On a juste eu le temps d'attacher le bateau au
ponton que ça s'est mis à tomber en trombes.
On a tout fermé et on est resté dans le bateau
une bonne demi-heure en attendant que la pluie
cesse.
Puis on s'est rendu au bureau pour payer la
marina: 2.00$ le pi. !! 70$ pour passer une nuit.
On nous a remis des jetons pour 4 bières
gratuites au bar adjacent, mais le comble c'est que leur
wi-fi ne fonctionne pas ! On réussit à se
connecter, mais on est pas capable de surfer. On a
l'éternel message : "the page cannot be displayed".
Le dockmaster a rebooté son appareil, mais rien
n'y fit. On devra donc se retrouver encore demain
matin dans un bistro tout près pour déjeuner et
où ils offrent le wifi.
Joli ville mais très touristique et il paraît
qu'on est en basse saison.. Il paraît qu'en janvier
il y a trois fois plus de bateaux et de monde.
Ken et moi sommes allé manger dans un bon resto
"bistrot français", après avoir été prendre une
bonne douche. On est arrivé là à 19h30 mais
c'était complet jusqu'à environ 20h15. On en a profité
pour aller dépenser nos jetons de bière.
Puis on est retourné au resto.
Comme entrée Ken a pris une soupe froide genre
gaspacho, et moi une soupe aux fruits de mer.
Délicieux.
Puis Ken a mangé un filet mignon qu'il dit être
le meilleur qu'il a goûté à date dans sa vie.
Et moi j'ai mangé du magret de canard à la thai,
c'était absolument délicieux et le magret était
gigantesque.... portions américaines obligent.
Là, il est 23h30 alors je vais aller au dodo.
Demain matin on devrait aller faire quelques
commissions, puis du lavage, puis ensuite aller
s'ancrer juste en face de la marina où il y a un gros
mouillage plein de voiliers. Pour repartir le
lendemain matin.

Last day of July !
This
morning we had to start the generator again. The fridge was
getting warm, had not worked during the night. But there was
still some coolness inside, it must be very well insulated.
Ken
did things differently this morning. He plugged the generator
on the 110 volts outlet of the battery charger instead of plugging the
wires directly on the battery poles. This way we were
charging all of them at once. We let it run about 20 minutes,
then we fired up the engine.
We knew there was a
restricted bridge just 3 miles ahead, opening every hour, so we managed
to get there just before 8:00. It's the Surf City Bridge.
Before
leaving this morning I checked for the possible marinas for tonight,
and we should reach the Beaufort, N.C. mucinipal marina.
$1.75 per foot but well... They also offer a courtesy car,
therefore we'll be able to go shoppig, and they are supposed to have
WiFi as well. Let's hope that this time it will work from the
boat.
We'll have to go slowly because 3 miles
before arrival there is another bridge that doesn't open during rush
hour, from 16:30 to 18:00. We know that we can't be there
before 16:30. So in the afternoon we'll have to slow the pace
to get there just after 18:00.
This morning we
have seen a record number of Ospreys. They build their nests
on the ICW markers. These poles with a red or green sign and
a number on them. All the nests we've seen had babies in
them. I took some pictures.
At 10:0 we
passed Chadwick Bay, it was just before mile 250. Blue skies.
At noon we passed in "Camp Lejeune", a military
base but most of all a firing range. And when they are firing
the ICW is closed, sometimes from a few hours to a few days.
We are lucky, there was no firing today.
There
was a restricted bridge just before and we had to wait until 11:30 to
get through.
For lunch I made a Greek salad. It
was very good. With a glass of white wine. And for
dessert two mini chocolate chunks cookies and a green tea.
It's
13:28 now.
Hi again, now it's 23:20.
We
arrived at Beaufort N.C. at 16:15. We made it before closing
of the bridge. Just when we arrived there was a thunerstorm
on the way. We just had time to tie the boat to the dock
when it started pouring down. We closed all the hatches and
remained inside for half an hour before rain stopped.
Then
we went to the office to pay the marina fees: $2.00 per foot
! That's 70$ for the night.
They gave
us 4 tokens for free beers at the adjacent bar, but the worst part is
that their WiFi is not working ! We get connected abut not
able to surf the internet, we have the message: "the page cannot be
displayed".
The dockmaster rebooted his machine
but to no avail.
We will have to go in an internet
café again tomorrow morning to have breakfast and WiFi.
Pretty
town but very touristy, and we're in low season..
They say
that in January there are three times more people and boats.
Ken
and I went for dinner in a nice French "bistro", after having a good
shower. We got there at 19:30 but it was full until around
20:15. We took the opportunity to go and spend our beer
tokens. Then we went back to the restaurant.
As
an appetizer Ken had a cold soup Gaspacho style and I had a seafood
soup. Delicious.
Then Ken had a "filet mignon" and
he said it was the best he's ever had in his life. I had some
"Magret de Canard à la Thai" (Thai style Duck Breast), it
was absolutely delicious and the "magret" was huge....!
American portions...
Now it's 23:30 so I'm gonna go
to bed.
Tomorrow morning we should go for some shopping,
then some laundry, then we'll go anchor somewhere nearby, and leave the
morning after.
