Après deux jours de route vers l'est, nous voici arrivés sur la côte atlantique, à Savannah, Georgie. La ville a été fondée en février 1733 par James Edward Oglethorpe, général et philanthrope britannique. After two days of driving east, we arrived on the Atlantic coast in Savannah, Georgia. The city was founded in February 1733 by James Edward Oglethorpe, a British general and philanthropist.
Le Savannah Cotton Exchange a été achevé en 1887 à l'époque où Savannah se classait au premier rang comme port de commerce du coton sur l'Atlantique et au deuxième rang mondial. The Savannah Cotton Exchange building was completed in 1887 during the era when Savannah ranked first as a cotton seaport on the Atlantic and second in the world.	C'est ici, au Chippewa Square que furent tournées les scènes du film Forrest Gump lorsqu'il est assis sur un banc, attendant l'autobus. It is here, at Chippewa Square, that the scenes of Forrest Gump were filmed, where he's sitting on a bench, waiting for the bus.

La statue de Florence Martus dite "The waving girl",  dans le vieux port de Savannah. La légende veut que toute jeune elle soit tombée en amour avec un marin et voulait être sûre qu'il la trouverait à son retour. Elle a passé 44 ans à saluer d'un mouchoir tous les navires qui entraient au port. The statue of Florence Martus called "The waving girl", on the historic riverfront of Savannah. Legend has it that when she was young she fell in love with a sailor and wanted to be sure he would find her on his return. She spent 44 years greeting with a handkerchief all ships entering the port.	La cathédrale St-Jean-Baptiste. C'est une belle cathédrale gothique française, certainement l'une des plus belles cathédrales du sud. St. John the Baptist Cathedral. It is a beautiful French Gothic cathedral, certainly one of the most amazing cathedrals in the south.
La ville de Savannah a été aménagée en 1733 autour de quatre places ouvertes (squares). Chacune entourée de quatre blocs résidentiels («tything») et de quatre blocs civiques («trust»).  La disposition d'un "square" et de huit blocs environnants était connue sous le nom de «paroisse». C'est le général Oglethorpe, fondateur de la ville, qui avait dessiné ces plans. Des "squares" supplémentaires ont été ajoutés à la fin du 18ème et au 19ème siècle, et en 1851 il y avait 24 "squares" dans la ville. La plupart des "squares" de Savannah sont nommées en l'honneur ou en mémoire  de personnes ou d'un événement historique, et beaucoup contiennent des monuments commémoratifs, des statues, des plaques et d'autres hommages. The city of Savannah was built in 1733 around four open squares. Each surrounded by four residential blocks ("tything") and four civic blocks ("trust"). 	Les innombrables maisons historiques entourant les squares sont toutes plus belles les unes que les autres. Celle ci-haut fut la maison de Juliette Gordon Low, qui fonda en 1912 les "Girls Scouts of the United States of America" selon les principes du scoutisme développé par Robert Baden-Powell. The innumerable historic houses surrounding the squares are all more beautiful than the others. The above was the home of Juliette Gordon Low, who in 1912 founded the "Girls Scouts of the United States of America" according to the principles of scouting developed by Robert Baden-Powell.
Les résidences cossues de l'époque avaient de beaux jardins. À droite : On imagine bien que ce poteau avec un oeillet devait servir à attacher la bride du cheval du visiteur. The opulent residences of the time had beautiful gardens. On the Right: It's easy to imagine that this post with an eyelet was used to fasten the bridle of the visitor's horse.
La ville compte plusieurs cinémas qui ont conservé leur charme d'antan. The city has several movie theaters that have retained their charm of yesteryear.	Le cimetière "Colonial Park" a vu Savannah y enterrer ses morts de 1750 à 1853. The Colonial Park Cemetary was the burying ground for the city from about 1750 until 1853.
Deux heures de marche dans la ville ça creuse l'appétit. Two hours strolling in the city increases the appetite.	Le meilleur "crab cake" qu'on a mangé ! Regardez-moi cette belle chair de crabe ! The best "crab cake" ever ! Look at this appetizing crab meat !
